Hi Mighty Oak families!<\/p>\n
Whenever we have late start, we go from the usual trickle of children in the early morning to a deluge at 9:30. The children get very excited to see each other, and they jump right into play! The children were excited that there were already 3 teachers, and so we got to use the entire courtyard right from the beginning of school. It made for a fun, energetic, and joyful morning. During play, the children checked in on the outdoor planter boxes, and saw that a few of the seeds had sprouted! The corn in particular is growing up tall. They waited patiently for their turn to climb up on top of the shed and check on the plants.<\/p>\n
Nicole appropriated some leftover fruit from the teachers’ meeting so that we could make strawberry cantaloupe ice cream! The children were all very excited to help. They practiced their knife skills by cutting the leaves off the strawberries, practiced their patience by waiting their turn to add ingredients, and practiced their self-control by remembering to keep their fingers away from their mouths (and going to wash them again when they forgot). They passed around the cantaloupe to smell, and took some turns mixing it up! We love group cooking projects, not only for the practical skills the children gain, but also for the bonding opportunity that comes from preparing and eating a meal — or a treat! — together.<\/p>\n
